Mancini Rejects Manchester City Contract Claims

Mancini contract claims have resurfaced amid renewed attention on Manchester City’s long-running financial case, but former City manager Roberto Mancini has rejected suggestions that an alleged dual contract involved him improperly.

Mancini led City from 2009-2013, before taking on the role in 2013 to coach the team to their first top-flight title in 44 years in 2012. Allegations concerning his compensation were previously reported by German magazine Der Spiegel in 2018.

The report suggested that Abu Dhabi’s Al Jazira had paid Mancini more money under a consultancy deal he had with the club when he was Manchester City manager. Both the club and Al Jazira had connections to City’s owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

At a press conference before Italy’s Nations League clash with Turkey in Bursa, Mancini said he was not concerned with the matter, and he reiterated that the claims were not new.

He also denied any hint that a Premier League scandal had seen Manchester City caught out, claiming it was a matter for the club regarding the double contract.

Mancini’s remarks come as Manchester City was accused in recent reports of 115 breaking Premier League financial regulations as the club’s investigation focuses on the club’s recent events. The allegations include that the club did not give financial information it received from the club or its members that was accurate for various seasons of 2009-10 to 2017-18.

Manchester City have denied any wrongdoing and have stuck to their guns in the case. In the last 15 years the club has won eight Premier League titles, including the record-breaking 2011-12 season with the former world cup-winning manager.
